For decades, Elgin National Watch Company defined the city. Thousands of people trained, worked, and lived around the demands of watchmaking. The trade shaped Elgin's identity, its workforce, and its standards.

 

The skills scattered. Much of the knowledge was lost locally, but its influence remained.
